Fall Pumpkin Knitting

One of my favorite things to do during Fall is to Knit Pumpkins or teach someone how! Fairly easy

Use Size 8 Knitting Needles

Size 5 Chunky Yarn

Cast On 36 stiches for this size. Cast on more for larger pumpkin or less for smaller.

Knit rows until you have a rectangle.

At the last row give yourself 2 ft and cut the yarn. Take a darning needle and thread the yarn through the stiches. Once threaded, remove the knitting needle and pull yarn tight gathering the top of the pumpkin. Secure with a knot and then sew the two sides together. Now with a basting stich around the bottom of the pumpkin pull to gather but leave opening enough to stuff. Stuff your pumpkin, then pull and gather yarn tight until hole is closed. Tie off with several knots. If you would like your pumpkin to have some definition then simple take some yarn (same color of different)  and from top to bottom run the yarn up the outside of the pumpkin. Then go through the middle and up the other side. Make about eight quadrants and then tie off.

*To make the stem simple cast on as many stiches  as you want the stem to be tall. I did about 7 stiches with this thinner yarn. Make a rectangle and cast off. Sew top together. Sew sides together. Stuff with yarn and sew to the pumpkin.

* To make the curly stem see the attached crochet video. Happy  Pumpkin making!
